Since 1982 The Edgar Allan Poe Birthday Celebration has been a Baltimore tradition attracting people from around the country and the world! For 2020 we will be presenting Poe-Pourri! Presented by Jeff Jerome, curator emeritus, formerly with the Edgar Allan Poe House in Baltimore and The Poe Project! The Poe Project is comprised of Peter Minkler and Tim Marrone. The Poe Project is creating a staged adaptation, with music, featuring three different, yet equally powerful and timeless poems by Poe: The Coliseum; Eldorado; and The Raven! Through the paring of theatre and music, the Poe Project's purpose is to discover new and creative ways of dramatically presenting the brilliantly macabre combination of darkness and beauty within Poe's work for live audiences. The Poe Project is the collaborative effort of violist Peter Minkler and actor Tim Marrone. The Coliseum with Mascagni's Intermezzo, Eldorado featuring Jonathan Leshnoff's original compositon, Eldorado, and concluding this portion of the program with Poe's most famous poem The Raven featuring Lament for Two Violas by Frank Bridge! Musicians/violists Peter Minkler and Mary Woehr with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will perform with each piece. Tim Marrone will narrate Poe's works. The celebration will conclude with noted Baltimore actor, Tony Tsendeas as he presents excerpts from his highly acclaimed The Poe Show! One of the highlights will be the chilling and gruesome The Black Cat! At the conclusion of the event the world famous apple cider Toast to Poe will be given by Jeff Jerome. A raffle will be offered with attendees having the chance to win dinner for two at the Annabel Lee Tavern, beer glasses from Raven Beer, Poe artwork from June Ponte of Poe and Raven Galleries, and a specially designed Poe theme birthday cake designed by Jeff Jerome! The attendees will then exit the historic hall and make their way to the Poe Monument to witness the arrival of the Poe Toaster! Please be carefu
